Saving Gorillas One Cell Phone at a Time!
Happy New Year!
My name is Mariah and I am in 4th grade! I have teamed up with Eco-Cell to collect and recycle old cell phones through the No Landfill Cell Phone Recycling Program. I have been doing this for 3 years and plan to continue to be an instrumental part in the fight to help save the endangered Gorillas in Africa and raise environmental awareness about the effects of E-waste.

CELL PHONES
RECYCLED!
Help me reach my new goal of 2,000 cell phones!
Let's keep it going!
Did You Know.....
- Almost all electronics (not just cell phones and laptops) use a metallic ore called "Coltan" (Columbite-Tantalite). This ore is being illegally mined in Congo, is wiping out the natural gorilla habitat, and causing the deaths of the African Mountain Gorillas.
- The Eastern Lowland Gorilla population in Africa has already declined 90% in the last 5 years.
- Cell phones and other electronics contain toxic chemicals that are harmful to the environment and cause dangerous pollution if not recycled properly.
So How Can Recycling a Cell Phone
Help Save the Gorillas?
Exciting news in 2010! For every cell phone I collect, Eco-Cell now promises to donate up to $50 per cell phone which will benefit research and protection efforts through the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International!

Thank you to all who helped me reach my first goal of collecting 1,000 cell phones. I am now an official Eco-Cell Silverback Conservation Partner and have started Phase 2 of my cell phone recycling efforts! Help me continue to make a difference for our community and environment! We only have one Earth to share!! Collect any old, new, or unused cell phones that you, your family, or friends may have lying around at home. Eco-cell will accept any cell phone or accessories- working or broken. The important thing to remember is to RECYCLE your cell phone to REDUCE the need for new Coltan! If you live in the Western New York Area, you can look for one of my collection boxes listed on the Collection Locations page, or send them to the following address:
